Ghanaian dancehall musician, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has reacted to the removal of George Akuffo Dampare as the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

On March 13, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama, through a press statement signed by Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, officially appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new IGP.

This development has since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with scores of netizens expressing their excitement over the change.

Shatta Wale, speaking on the development, also took to Facebook on March 14, 2025, to criticise the former IGP, claiming that he was the “first IGP to arrest celebrities more than criminals.”

“The first IGP to arrest celebrities more than criminals. I never see dem commot IGP weh people Jubilate like this. This should tell you something was wrong somewhere… If Shatta Wale deh talk, God you say man,” he wrote in English mixed with pidgin

In a separate post, Shatta Wale expressed dissatisfaction with former IGP Dampare, particularly regarding a past incident where he (Shatta Wale) was jailed for creating fear and panic by claiming his life was in danger.

He pointed out that the pastors, who had issued ‘false’ death prophecies about him that triggered his reaction, were not jailed.

“We go to jail, pastors were not jailed,” Shatta Wale stated.
