Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has admitted that the country is not yet fully prepared for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, but remains confident that systems are in place to ensure readiness before the competition begins.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, March 30, the Minister explained that preparations are ongoing and extend beyond the performance of the Black Stars. He noted that the global tournament presents a significant opportunity for Ghana to boost its international image.

Mr Adams revealed that government planning includes branding, tourism promotion, and other strategic initiatives aimed at maximizing the country’s visibility during the World Cup period. He stressed that the focus is not solely on football but also on promoting Ghana on the world stage.

According to him, a budget of $30 million has been allocated for Ghana’s World Cup campaign. Of this amount, approximately $16 million has been set aside for the team’s participation, covering logistics such as accommodation, training, feeding, allowances, and bonuses.

Despite acknowledging gaps in readiness, Mr Adams expressed optimism that Ghana will be fully prepared when it matters most.
