Karela United owner Haruna Iddrisu has lamented the poor state of officiating in the Ghana Premier League, citing it as a major challenge to football in the country.

He indicated that some refereeing decisions are problematic, generating controversies during league matches that sometimes turn violent.

The Member of Parliament for Tamale South stated that the recent violent incident at Nsoatre, which claimed the life of Kotoko fan Yaw Frimpong popularly known as Pooley, highlights how low the league has sunk.

Speaking in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu said poor officiating has made the Ghana Premier League unattractive to the public.

“Our football is not in its best shape. Look at the incidents in Nsoatreman. Officiating is at its poorest, and our Premier League is not being watched,” he said.

Haruna Iddrisu added that Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams will work diligently to improve the country’s sports fortunes.

“I have no doubt that Kofi Adams will make President John Dramani Mahama proud as sports minister,” he noted.

Meanwhile, parliament has approved Kofi Adams as the Minister of Sports and Recreation, and he has officially begun working.
