The Ghana Football Association has begun the process of appointing a new head coach for the Black Stars following the dismissal of Otto Addo, with attention turning to potential candidates ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Among the leading names under consideration is Kwesi Appiah, who is currently in charge of the Sudan national team. Appiah has earned praise for his work with the North African side, although any move for the experienced coach could prove complicated due to his existing contract. Nonetheless, the opportunity to lead Ghana at the World Cup may influence any formal approach by the FA.

Appiah previously managed the Black Stars in two spells. During his first tenure, he guided Ghana to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where the team exited at the group stage but impressed, including a notable draw against eventual champions Germany. However, his second stint ended in 2019 after inconsistent results.

The FA is also weighing the option of an internal appointment following recent technical restructuring. Desmond Offei is among those who could take charge on an interim basis, supported by assistants Alain Ravera, John Paintsil and Kim Lars Bjorkegren.

With friendly matches against Mexico and Wales scheduled in May, the FA faces a tight timeline to settle on a new coach before Ghana’s World Cup campaign, where they will face Panama, Croatia and England in the group stage.
