The four children of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, have paid a solemn visit to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace to officially announce their mother’s passing.

The visit, which took place on Monday, November 3, 2025, formed part of the Asante customary tradition, where the bereaved family formally informs the Asante King of the death of a royal or a distinguished member of Asanteman.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, a pioneering political figure and founder of the National Democratic Party (NDP), passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra on October 23, 2025, aged 76. She was reportedly rushed to the hospital after falling ill earlier that morning.

According to Oheneba Akwasi Abeyie, the Akomfuohene of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and head of Nana Konadu’s family, the late former First Lady’s health suddenly deteriorated a day after she had attended the funeral service of Lucy Abena Konadu Effah at the Christ the King Church in Accra.

In the wake of her passing, an outpouring of condolences has flooded the Rawlings residence at Ridge, with numerous high-profile personalities visiting to commiserate with the family.

These include President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and celebrated musicians such as Okyeame Kwame and Kojo Antwi, among others.

During their visit to the Manhyia Palace, Nana Konadu’s children, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Yaa Asantewaa Agyeman-Rawlings, Amina Agyeman-Rawlings, and Kimathi Rawlings appeared in solemn all-black mourning attire.

In a video circulating online, the four siblings are seen entering the palace courtyard, where they were warmly received by Otumfuo’s chiefs and attendants before meeting the Asantehene.

They later received condolences from the royal household and members of the public gathered at the palace.

After the formal announcement, the family was escorted out of the palace by elder members of their extended family and Otumfuo’s aides.
