Talk of a possible easing of the long-standing friction between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy has been thrown back into doubt after Stonebwoy’s latest comments, even after a widely publicised moment of unity.

During the Ghana World Cup fundraising event, President John Dramani Mahama encouraged the two dancehall heavyweights into a symbolic embrace, a gesture many interpreted as a turning point in their relationship. However, Stonebwoy’s remarks at the 2026 World Cup fundraising launch held at the Kempinski Hotel suggested otherwise.

Rather than signalling reconciliation, he leaned into the idea of rivalry as a driving force, implying that the competitive edge between them still has a role to play in the music space.

He compared their dynamic to one of Ghana’s most famous football rivalries, using Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko as his reference point, and argued that such divisions can sustain excitement and public interest.

“This is a very important call to all of us. You know that Kotoko and Phobia [Hearts] can never be one. They are two different teams that must continue to maintain that competitive energy to bring joy to the nation. If I say this, you know what I mean,” he stated.

Stonebwoy also made it clear that he is not retreating from that competitive space, suggesting that it remains part of what fuels creativity and engagement within the industry.

At the same time, he urged caution in how the rivalry plays out, stressing the need for limits that preserve respect and the spirit of healthy competition without crossing into harmful territory.

“The minister said it is a healthy competition, which I believe it is. But we just have to be mindful, so we tone down things that could harm the spirit of this competition, especially the vulgarity, which is rarely found in the BHIM Nation camp,” the Burniton Music Group boss further stated.
