The legal tussle between musician and businesswoman Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, popularly known as Mzbel, and Prophet Fire Oja has officially entered the courts, with an Adenta District Court setting a new date to continue hearing the matter.

Both parties appeared before the court for the first time on Friday, January 30, 2025, marking the formal start of a defamation case stemming from comments allegedly made about the singer on social media platforms.

After the initial hearing, Mzbel took to social media to brief the public on developments in court, revealing that Fire Oja was granted bail in the sum of GHS 50,000 with two sureties. She made it clear that her decision to pursue legal action was deliberate and rooted in a desire to protect her personal and professional standing.

In her post, Mzbel stated: “Today, I appeared before the court in relation to a defamation matter arising from statements made about me on social media.
The court proceedings went smoothly. The accused, Fire Oja, was granted bail in the sum of GHS 50,000, with two sureties.
This matter is currently before the court, and I have full confidence in the judicial process. I initiated this action to protect my name, reputation, and professional work.
Out of respect for the court, I will not be making further comments on the substance of the case at this time. I kindly ask the media and the public to allow the legal process to take its course. Thank you.”

The case follows events from weeks earlier, when Mzbel disclosed that Prophet Fire Oja had been taken into police custody over remarks she described as false and damaging. At the time, she said the self-styled prophet was cooperating with investigators after she filed a formal complaint against him.

Mzbel has accused Fire Oja of making defamatory claims, including comments tied to a video in which he alleged that she had been hospitalized after what he referred to as a spiritual or soul travel experience. She has consistently rejected those claims as untrue.

Although Fire Oja later denied being arrested, Mzbel maintained in an interview with ZionFelix that he was indeed taken into custody. She reiterated after the court session, in a video message, that her primary aim is to clear her name, which informed her decision to seek judicial intervention.

The court has adjourned the case to March 11, 2026, when proceedings are expected to resume.
