Ghanaian actor and content creator Ben South has shared his thoughts on the overwhelming reception given to American YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed during his recent visit to Ghana.

He said Ghanaians tend to show more love to foreigners than to their own people.

Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM on January 29, 2026, Ben South acknowledged IShowSpeed’s global influence but questioned why similar support is not extended to local creatives.

“As a content creator, we all know IShowSpeed has the numbers and we can’t take that from him,” he said.

According to him, the streamer’s visit brought significant international attention to Ghana, with millions of people searching for the country online, which he described as a positive impact.

“Imagine having millions of people searching your country because someone visited the country; it means the impact is huge,” he stated.

However, Ben South argued that while foreigners receive massive support and admiration when they arrive in the country, local creatives often struggle to get the same level of recognition.

“The way Ghanaians treat foreigners when they visit the country, they don’t treat us like that. They should at least show us the love they show foreigners,” he shared.

He further dismissed claims that IShowSpeed intentionally visited to promote Ghana, stressing that the streamer was primarily focused on his personal brand and audience.

“He didn’t stream because he wanted to promote Ghana. He streamed because he’s a streamer and he’s touring Africa. He’s thinking of his subscribers and his money but in a way, he can promote the country and that’s fine,” he noted.

The content creator expressed concern that the country’s excessive admiration for foreigners could make local talents feel inferior and overlooked.

“What about the people in Ghana? Are you trying to make your own people always recessive and make the foreigners dominate? Are you trying to make your people feel inferior? We all can be greater than how you see other people,” he said.

Ben South further stated that many talented Ghanaians are not given the same opportunities or encouragement, despite their potential.

“My problem is, we love foreigners more than we love ourselves and it’s affecting us. There are more talented people in the country, but you will be sad to hear what your own person will tell you,” he lamented.

He also suggested that certain actions accepted from foreigners might not be tolerated if done by locals, citing an example involving traditional authority.

“Imagine what would have happened if I was the one who rolled the way he rolled in front of a king in Akropong. Even if he should hold a King’s hand and roll with him, he would have rolled with him just because it’s him. It wouldn’t have ended well if it were a Ghanaian who did that in front of a King,” he added.
