Former IBF jr. Welterweight champion Liam Paro had all he could handle against undefeated Frenchman David Papot in Tennyson, Queensland, Australia on Thursday night as he battled tooth-and-nail to a hard fought unanimous decision win. This was Paro’s second fight back since losing his title via UD to Richarson Hitchins last December in Puerto Rico. This marked Paro’s second foray at welterweight and was billed as an IBF welterweight title eliminator.

The light hitting Papot wasn’t fazed by fighting in hostile territory and took the fight to Paro. In the fourth, Papot hurt Paro badly, driving him to the ropes and causing a swelling on the former champ’s right eyelid. Paro fought his way out of trouble to get out of the round. Papot had his moments in the tenth and eleventh as well, but Paro returned favor to the roar of the crowd. In the end, all three judges saw it for Paro by scores of 117-111 and 116-112 twice, who now moves to 27-1, 16 KOs. Papot tasted defeat for the first time, falling to 30-1-1, 5 KOs.

Two-time world title challenger Liam Wilson stopped Dominican Jorge Santana in the fifth to snag the WBO International title at super featherweight.

Jacob Ng returned to the ring after a three-and-a-half year absence and his first loss (to former IBF feather champ Billy Dib), to earn a TKO1 win over Japan’s Rikki Naito, who ruptured his Achilles tendon during the abbreviated action. Ng was nearly twenty lbs heavier than his last ring appearance, fighting at super welter.
