Veteran Nollywood actor Diewait Ikpechukwu has died at the age of 71, bringing to an end a career that spanned more than two decades in the Nigerian film industry.
The actor reportedly died on Thursday, November 5, 2026, with the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) confirming his passing on Friday, November 6.
AGN National President, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Yakubu, announced the death in a tribute, describing Ikpechukwu as another legend whose memories would remain with the industry.
Ikpechukwu was particularly recognised for his portrayal of traditional rulers and other authoritative characters in Nollywood productions.
His performances in films such as Evil Men, alongside veteran actor Pete Edochie, as well as Python King, The Guilty and Omera, earned him recognition among audiences.
Beyond his work on screen, he played an active role in the Actors Guild of Nigeria, serving as chairman of its Enugu State chapter, where he supported and mentored emerging actors.
His journey into entertainment, however, was not limited to acting. Before establishing himself in Nollywood, Ikpechukwu was an accomplished footballer in the 1970s and reportedly earned an invitation to join Nigeria’s national team, then known as the Green Eagles.
He later ventured into radio broadcasting, working as a sports commentator before pursuing a career in film.
Ikpechukwu is survived by his wife, Gloria, children and grandchildren, who join colleagues, friends and fans in mourning his passing.
His death marks another loss for Nollywood, particularly among the generation of actors whose performances helped shape the Nigerian film industry.
