A woman in her 50s has reportedly been struck by a vehicle at Flinders Street Station, just metres from the route of the Melbourne Marathon.
Shocked witnesses told Herald Sun a pedestrian was hit as a driver sped towards a crowd, which prompted police to draw their weapons.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson told ABC paramedics were called to the scene at 11am.
One person had been taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital, the spokesperson said.
Herald Sun reported Project Zero Coffee owner Kirk Pearson was looking out at the intersection of Flinders St and Elizabeth St when the incident occurred.
‘I was just dead set looking out towards the station, and then I saw a car just come screaming through and hit a woman,’ Mr Pearson said.
Mr Pearson added the vehicle then made its way towards the Flinders St and Swanston St intersection before doing a quick U-turn after seeing a road block in place for the Melbourne Marathon.
‘Bystanders had to actually drag the injured person off the road so that they wouldn’t be hit again because this guy was not slowing down,’ he said.

‘You just heard all the screaming, and then the police were here instantly.’
A witness at the scene told 3AW presenter Jacqueline Felgate a young boy was about ’10 metres away’ from driving into the crowd at the event.
‘Cops got their guns out, told everyone to get down, and the kid did a U-turn and sped off – all the officers that were stationed here have all gone to chase the offender,’ they said.
‘Happened right outside Flinders St Station.’
Another witness told Herald Sun: ‘Thank goodness there was a traffic control truck parked at the main Flinders St/Swanston St intersection so he wasn’t able to drive through the marathon runners.’
‘He did a U-turn back down Flinders St and hit a person at the Elizabeth St entrance of the station,’ they said.
‘It was insane, driving so fast and so erratically.
‘Scariest thing I’ve ever witnessed.’

More to come.
