A woman who was found floating in the Brisbane River has been identified as chilling CCTV images are released of her final moments.

The woman, who has been identified as 49-year-old Crystal Beale, was found by a member of the public at Yeronga at about 5.40am on February 22.

At the time, police said initial investigations suggested Ms Beale’s death was not suspicious, but a murder investigation has now been launched.

The results of a post-mortem investigation led police to believe Ms Beale’s death is suspicious and investigations are continuing around the circumstances of her last hours.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the body was found, but she could not be revived and was declared dead a short time later.

Ms Beale was last seen in the inner-south suburb of West End, 5.5km south of Yeronga, on the evening of February 21, police said.

Speaking on Wednesday morning, Detective Acting Inspector Rod Watts said several lines of inquiry are being examined, including CCTV from the West End area.

‘We believe Crystal was near the Brisbane River at Orleigh Park, West End and on Ryan Street, West End late on Friday February 21,’ Inspector Watts said.

‘Our investigation has centred around collecting CCTV from this area and we are now making an appeal to anyone who may have been in this area between 9.30pm on Friday February 21 and 1am the following morning and has seen Crystal or any suspicious behaviour to please come forward.’

The inspector added that ‘As this is an ongoing investigation, police are limited in what details we can disclose.

‘But we are confident people saw Crystal on the night and they have information that will assist with our inquiries.

Ms Beale is described as Caucasian in appearance, slim build, approximately 165cm tall, with long brown hair.
