Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin

The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has criticised the government for failing to include the 24-Hour Economy policy in the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy.

Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, after the Finance Minister presented the budget, he expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of the policy, which was a major campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress.

“Mr. Speaker, we have witnessed what we can best describe as an ‘Azaa budget.’ Their much-talked-about 24-hour economy, where is it? The President came here and said it was already in motion. Now, the Finance Minister presents the budget, and there is no mention of it.

“The youth of this country have been waiting for this 24-hour economy policy, yet the Minister tells us it will be brought later. Eii, Ato! So, all the jobs they promised were merely an ‘Azaa’ promise?” he quizzed.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has presented the first Budget and Economic Policy of the John Dramani Mahama administration in Parliament.

This was in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
