Head coach of Hearts of Lions, Bashir Hayford has been banned by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for six matches following misconduct during a game.

According to the GFA, during the Ghana Premier League match between Karela United and Hearts of Lions, the coach was involved in a heated conversation with match officials, which was reported.

After the Disciplinary Committee probed the issue, coach Hayford was found guilty of verbally abusing the match officials, which led to the ruling.

It was also indicated that the Hearts of Lions head coach will pay an amount of GH¢5,000 in addition to serving the six-match ban as part of the punishment.

“Bashir Hayford has been banned for six matches by the Disciplinary Committee for unsporting behaviour towards match officials during the Match Day 7 of the Ghana Premier League game between Karela United and Hearts of Lions at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

“He was found guilty of verbally abusing the match officials during the said game. Hayford has also been fined GH¢5,000 and has received a warning that any further misconduct will result in more severe sanctions,” the statement released by the GFA on November 4, 2024, read.

Karela United defeated Hearts of Lions by a lone goal at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on October 20, 2024.
