Renowned highlife artiste Ofori Amponsah has shared his experience when he met music legend Daddy Lumba for the first time.

Speaking in an interview with TV3 about his journey to stardom, he revealed that he spent years searching for a producer to pitch his songs to, often walking around with his CDs.

One day, after school, he visited a CD shop in Lapaz, feeling ready to give up after four years of trying.

“When I got to that place I asked the guy ‘do you produce?’, he said no and asked if I have a song and I said yes.

“So, he listened to the songs and started nodding his head and saying these songs are great. I think Daddy Lumba is searching for young guys to groom. So that guy was my breakthrough,” he narrated

Two days later, he met Daddy Lumba, who listened to his songs and was impressed.

“The first day I couldn’t meet him so I went the next day and met him and he said ‘are you Ofori Amponsah’ and I said yes. And he said ‘you this small boy sang this song?’ So, he went in and came back with an envelope with GH¢5000 those days and he said ‘You are a star’,” he narrated.

This moment marked the beginning of Ofori Amponsah’s music career.

Despite this breakthrough, it took another four to five years for his songs to be released. During this time, Daddy Lumba temporarily stopped producing music, which delayed Ofori Amponsah’s progress.

“I was in school at that time and I got sacked from school for just going to sing so I was on the streets for four years,” he said.

However, through perseverance and divine intervention, his songs eventually came out.

His first collaboration with Daddy Lumba was the song “Anti Atta,” and he later released his debut album, “Asew.”
