After a painful disqualification at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team is leaving nothing to chance ahead of the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China.

Set to compete in Heat 1 of the event on May 10, Team Ghana has been spotted putting in extra work on baton exchange drills, determined to correct the costly error that saw them eliminated from the Olympics despite crossing the line in a respectable sixth position.

In Paris, the quartet of Abdul Rasheed Saminu, Benjamin Azamati, Ibrahim Fuseini, and Joseph Paul Amoah clocked 38.62 seconds, but their joy was short-lived.

Officials ruled that the baton had been passed outside the designated zone during the final exchange, leading to an official disqualification.

Now, with a revamped squad that includes Joseph Paul Amoah, Ibrahim Fuseini, Sean Safo-Antwi, Barnabas Aggerh, and Mustapha Bokpin, Ghana is aiming to not only avoid past mistakes but also book a spot at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

The Guangzhou Relays serve as a key qualification event for the global stage, and Ghana finds itself in a competitive Heat alongside Great Britain & Northern Ireland, France, South Korea, Poland, and Colombia.

With only limited spots up for grabs, every fraction of a second, and every clean exchange will count.
