Ghanaian highlife singer and songwriter Akwaboah has finally broken his silence on the wave of harsh comments he received over his looks in a recent anniversary photo with his wife.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM’s Ekwanso Dwoodwoo drive-time show on Monday, June 30, 2025, Akwaboah admitted that as human as he is, some of the online trolls hit him deeply.

“Sometimes when these trolls come up online, as a human, it is very hurtful and painful, especially when you go and look at the person behind the profile insulting or ridiculing you,” he stated.

The conversation comes months after the celebrated musician posted what was meant to be a simple photo with his wife to mark their wedding anniversary on May 3.

At the time, instead of just congratulatory messages, the photo, which Akwaboah explained was zoomed in, attracted negative comments about his physical appearance, with some people claiming he looked older and worn out compared to his wife’s youthful glow.

Akwaboah in this interview clarified the backstory behind the viral photo, explaining that he was extremely tired that Sunday morning when it was taken.

He recounted by stating:“I had just one hour of sleep before church because I was on the road the whole day for a show at Kwahu and returned to Accra very late.”
