The Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) has announced the winner of its maiden Youth Advocacy Challenge. Philomena Esi Agudu, a 23-year-old medical student from the University of Cape Coast, took the top spot with her thought-provoking article on “Inclusive Education in Ghana: Bridging the Gap for Girls and Persons with Disabilities.”

Agudu’s article presented practical solutions to address the challenges faced by marginalized groups in the educational system. Her piece raised awareness and offered actionable recommendations to enhance inclusivity and accessibility for girls and persons with disabilities.

The Youth Advocacy Challenge is an initiative of the GhLA, supported by UNICEF, aimed at empowering young people to express their perspectives and propose solutions to critical national issues. The challenge provides a platform for young people to contribute to national dialogue and share innovative ideas.

Agudu competed against six other participants and was awarded a sum of GHC3,000 for her winning article. The GhLA and UNICEF are committed to creating a generation of informed and active youth, and the Youth Advocacy Challenge is a key part of this effort.

The challenge will continue with a new topic each quarter, sparking fresh discussions and inspiring impactful articles. The theme for the recent quarter focused on education, while the theme for this quarter will address health, with application dates to be announced soon.
