    Two men have died and a baby was rushed to hospital after a horror crash in Northern Ireland.

    The collision, involving a Mercedes and an Audi, happened on A28 Killylea Road outside the village of Killylea just before 12.45pm on Friday.

    Both men died at the scene and four others, including a baby, were taken to hospital.

    A woman was left with serious injuries and remains in critical condition.

    Following the crash, the road was closed for several hours as emergency services dealt with the incident but was reopened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

    The Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council said joyous occasion of Christmas has been ‘overshadowed by an unimaginable tragedy’.

    Councillor Sarah Duffy said: ‘Today, we mourn the heartbreaking loss of lives due to a devastating road traffic collision.

    ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends who are facing this pain, especially at this time of year. We cannot begin to comprehend the depth of their loss, and we stand with them in their grief.’

    She thanked emergency services for responding to swiftly to the tragedy.  

    She highlighted this is a ‘stark reminder’ of the importance of road safety, especially during the holiday season when roads are often busier.

    She added the community will come together to support those affected. 

    A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson said: ‘The Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm that two men have sadly died following a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Killylea Road outside Killylea, County Armagh.’

    Inspector Cherith Adair, from the Collision Investigation Unit said detectives are investigating the circumstances of the collision and has appealed to witnesses to come forward and assist with police’s enquiries. 

    The police officer added: ‘You can call 101 and quote reference 740 of 27/12/24 or report online at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.’
