People understood the depth of Stonebwoy’s relationship with MC Portfolio when the Dancehall artiste dedicated his ‘Artiste of the Year’ award to the media personality on stage, in front of the world.
“I won Artiste of the Year because everything MC Portfolio said was the truth. The world needs to know the truth,” Stonebwoy declared during his acceptance speech, acknowledging that MC Portfolio had tirelessly advocated for him when many others questioned his worthiness.
This public endorsement solidified MC Portfolio’s position as a staunch member of the BHIM Camp which had always defended Stonebwoy’s ‘industry giant’ title.
Their bond grew even stronger, and MC Portfolio gradually became Stonebwoy’s unofficial mouthpiece on social media, often defending him and confronting anyone who dared to attack his boss, especially online.
As expected, being in such a close position within Stonebwoy’s inner circle meant that MC Portfolio would inherit his fair share of enemies. But has that always been the case?
MC Portfolio’s previous affiliation with Shatta Wale
Interestingly, MC Portfolio’s story with Shatta Wale dates back several years.
He once served as a liaison between Shatta Wale and some Kumasi-based artistes during the dancehall star’s Kumerica project, which took place four years ago.
While MC Portfolio maintained that his relationship with Shatta Wale was strictly professional and that he owed no “permanent allegiance” to Shatta, many questioned whether this could later create issues in his relationship with Stonebwoy.
The doubts were understandable, given the fierce rivalry between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.
The test of loyalty?
The true test of MC Portfolio’s loyalty came recently when he came face-to-face with Shatta Wale.
After a period of publicly criticising Shatta Wale, particularly on social media, MC Portfolio found himself in a more complicated situation on live TV during the ‘Fakye Showbiz’ program.
In an unexpected turn of events, Shatta Wale handed MC Portfolio GH¢5,000 live on air.
MC Portfolio’s reaction was a mixture of shock, confusion, and excitement, as he initially questioned why Shatta was giving him the money but accepted it nonetheless.
The Aftermath
The aftermath of this development sent shock across the industry. Many, including Stonebwoy’s close associates, criticised MC Portfolio for accepting money from Shatta Wale, viewing it as a sign of disloyalty.
Some went as far as to claim that Shatta had cleverly used the gift to weaken Stonebwoy‘s relationship with one of his key supporters.
DJ Slim, a prominent figure close to Stonebwoy, expressed his disappointment during a discussion on his ‘Street is Watching’ podcast.
He expressed that, as a known member of Stonebwoy’s camp, MC Portfolio should never have accepted money from his rival Shatta Wale.
DJ Slim also pointed out MC Portfolio’s apparent shift in behaviour when interacting with Shatta, particularly his body language, which he interpreted as a sign of betrayal.
“Right on Angel FM, in front of everyone, he openly said that Sammy Flex gives him money. When he met Shatta, you could see his mixed feelings. He couldn’t articulate himself properly. He even worked with Shatta during the Kumasi Invasion project and got slapped by Shatta’s bodyguards. So, how could he accept the GH₵ 5,000 on national television?”
DJ Slim further criticised the timing of the gift, questioning why Shatta would give MC Portfolio money publicly rather than behind the scenes.
He also reminded MC Portfolio that while Shatta Wale had given him money, Stonebwoy had given him much more, exposure and support.
He posed a final question to MC Portfolio: “Now that you’ve settled your differences with Shatta Wale, will you still criticise him when you sit on shows?”

In response to the backlash, particularly DJ Slim’s criticism, MC Portfolio expressed his disappointment in being misjudged.
He clarified that, despite the circumstances, he would always be grateful to Stonebwoy for the exposure he had received and would continue to support him.
“In all this, I don’t expect Stonebwoy to choose me anymore. He doesn’t have to, but I will always choose him, not because he is flawless, but because I owe him that. No one has gone to the extent he has for me! It’s also okay to show love from afar,” MC Portfolio said.
He also vehemently denied that accepting the GH₵5,000 from Shatta Wale was an attempt to sell his loyalty.
