Former Black Stars striker, Prince Tagoe, has outlined what he views as the lack of a proper system to ensure a smooth transition of the captaincy role of the Black Stars.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Emmanuel Enin on the Sports Check program, Prince Tagoe detailed what he views as persistent captaincy rows since the era of Stephen Appiah.

He questioned the transition from Stephen Appiah to Asamoah Gyan and all the captaincy changes that followed.

Prince Tagoe lamented that the persistent captaincy brouhaha affects unity and cohesion in the team’s camp and breeds discontent among players.

He also noted that the lack of respect shown to some senior players in the past has affected the team and could be a reason for the recent struggles of the team.

Touching on the latest captaincy row involving Jordan Ayew and Mohammed Kudus, the former Hearts of Oak striker declined to blame Otto Addo.

Instead, Prince Tagoe placed the blame at the doorstep of the Ghana Football Association, noting that they should have handled the situation as they are aware of the possible effects on the team.

The former Hoffenheim striker expressed disquiet over the decision to pick Kudus ahead of Jordan Ayew, arguing that the Leicester City forward deserved the role as a senior member of the team.

Prince Tagoe holds that the GFA must correct the trend and ensure that the situation is resolved to restore unity and calm in the team’s camp.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are set to play Angola later today, November 15, 2024, at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Angola.
