Ghanaian actress Victoria Lebene has shared her thoughts on the concept of submissiveness in marriage, emphasising that being submissive does not equate to being timid.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime on October 30, 2025, Lebene explained that effective communication and understanding form the true foundation of a successful relationship.

“Submissiveness doesn’t mean you should be timid or just accept anything. The one thing that makes marriage or partnership very fruitful is communication,” she said.

She noted that open discussions and mutual understanding between partners help prevent unnecessary conflicts.

“If the circumstances demand that we discuss or debate an issue to reach a certain understanding, then we should do so. Perhaps you may not fully understand something at first, but through communication, you’re able to decide on what to do,” she stated.

Lebene further explained that communication fosters growth and continuous learning between couples.

“Everything is about communication and understanding. When there’s communication, there’s feedback and clarity. You get to understand what your partner is saying, or not saying, and that helps you learn things you didn’t know before,” she said.

According to her, submissiveness should be seen as cooperation that promotes harmony in the home rather than a sign of weakness.

“I think it’s a continuous journey. We are learning and adapting every day, so it doesn’t end at one point. Submissiveness doesn’t mean you should be timid, and it doesn’t mean we see you as less of a person or a woman. It simply means you comply in a way that creates orderliness in the home,” she added.
