Media personality and entertainment pundit, Nana Frimpong Ziega, has shared his concerns about the growing public calls for financial help for veteran creatives facing hardships in Ghana.
Speaking on Neat FM, Ziega argued that the approach to seeking help for these veterans should be handled more discreetly to protect their reputation.
His comments come in the wake of an appeal for financial support for renowned actor Mawuli Semevor, who was involved in a fire accident and suffered serious burns.
A video shared by an NGO, ‘Beyond Burns International’, captured an appeal for financial support to help treat the actor’s injuries.
But speaking on that, Ziega said instead of announcing the actor’s plight on social media, organizers should have reached out privately to influential figures in the entertainment industry and beyond.
“When Mawuli Semevor’s accident happened, they should have appealed to his colleagues or even the president quietly, rather than making it public.
Men like Dr Kwame Despite, Ibrahim Mahama and others are able to help. Go to them in private and raise the money instead of going out with such news. I find it embarrassing,” Ziega stated.
Over the years, the media has been filled with appeals for help for various creatives in the movie and music industry, including KK Kabobo, Psalm Adjeteyfio, and Maame Gyanwaa, who suffered serious health problems.
Ziega pointed out that such public appeals can damage the legendary status of these creatives and tarnish their reputations.
“Announcing it on social media is embarrassing. People will start asking why is that this person has so many songs, has been in so many movies and has made money, yet he/she doesn’t have the means to handle his own problems.
“This approach lowers their legendary status. There has to be a better way to raise the needed funds without damaging their names,” he added.
