Bono Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has alleged that former Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is unwell while in prison.
Abronye made the claim during an appearance on Ohia TV, where he challenged assurances that Wontumi was doing well in custody and accused some party leaders of withholding information about his alleged condition from supporters.
According to Abronye, NPP members and sympathisers should not take claims about Wontumi’s well-being at face value, insisting that the former Ashanti Regional Chairman was facing health challenges behind bars.

“I am telling you today that Chairman Wontumi is sick. If anybody tells you that he is fine, that is a lie. NPP followers and supporters, if any of the party’s leaders tells you that he is well, it is a lie. Chairman Wontumi is sick,” he stated.
His comments have raised questions about Wontumi’s condition at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, where he has been in custody following his conviction in a case involving Akonta Mining Company Limited.
However, Abronye’s claims about Wontumi’s health have not been independently confirmed.
During the interview, Abronye further alleged that some NPP leaders were reluctant to disclose information about Wontumi’s alleged condition because they feared it would worry party supporters.
He urged members of the party not to accept assurances that the former regional chairman was well, extending his warning to information they might receive from prison authorities.
“They don’t want to say it because supporters will get worried, so don’t let anybody lie to you. Even if the prison authorities say he is fine, it is a lie,” Abronye added.
The Bono Regional Chairman also claimed that Wontumi was suffering in custody because of what he described as fabricated allegations against him.
“He is suffering because of lies that were fabricated against him,” he said.
Abronye’s remarks represent his own account of the situation. No independent medical information was provided in the statements to establish Wontumi’s current health condition.
