Artiste manager and entertainment analyst Bullgod has reaffirmed his belief that Shatta Wale is the true Dancehall king in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Bullgod, who once managed Shatta Wale, responded to a listener’s question about who he considers the Dancehall king.

According to him, while Stonebwoy is talented, his focus has always been on Afro-dancehall rather than pure Dancehall.

‘Doing music videos in 2025 doesn’t make sense’ – Bullgod

“Shatta has been true to that genre. I think Stonebwoy does well as well. I’m not sure Stonebwoy will sit anywhere and claim that. Stonebwoy claims Afro-dancehall. For real Dancehall, you cannot take the crown away from Shatta. He has it, and he has championed it not just today, but from way back. When the facts are there, you cannot deny it,” Bullgod said.

Bullgod’s comment come at a time when there is debate about the roots of Afro-dancehall and who should be credited with originating the sound.

Stonebwoy recently addressed the matter in a separate conversation on the same platform, clarifying his position on the origin of the term.

He explained that although the style existed before he popularised it, he was the one who coined the name “Afro-dancehall.”

At the same time, he paid tribute to Samini as the undisputed king of African Dancehall.

“My African dancehall king is one and only Samini, yeah, with all respect and with full chest. The king of African dancehall, because there are accolades to show. The first winner of MOBO awards from Ghana, which is high. It means the work has been done and names have been said,” Stonebwoy said.
