Sarfo Gyamfi is a former player of Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko legend Sarfo Gyamfi has come forward with a damning account, alleging that Prosper Ogum repeatedly insulted players and caused deep divisions within the dressing room.

His revelations shed further light on the toxic environment that ultimately led to Ogum’s dismissal.

Ogum was relieved of his duties by Asante Kotoko following their defeat to Nations FC on Sunday, April 20, 2025, a result that extended the club’s winless run to four matches.

In the wake of his sacking, fresh details have emerged about the turmoil behind the scenes.

The former winger told Ghana Sports Page that serious tension existed between Ogum and the players, claiming the coach frequently resorted to insults rather than offering support.

This toxic atmosphere reportedly demoralized the squad, making Ogum’s departure from the club inevitable.

“With what I hear from the dressing room, there were a lot of issues between the players and the coach, as some reports had already suggested. I’m sorry to disclose this, but as a footballer, when your coach commends you in training and encourages you to work hard, even when you make mistakes, you feel motivated. But when a coach resorts to insults, calling players ‘uncivilised,’ it breaks the spirit. It was better for him to leave,” Gyamfi said.

Ogum’s return to Kotoko was far from smooth, as the team’s performance dipped significantly in the latter part of the campaign.

Despite bringing in a number of new signings, his transfer decisions did little to improve results on the pitch, sparking frustration among supporters and drawing criticism from former club icons.
