It was truly a night of upsets. The main event of the quadruple show watched a stunning upset where WBO#6, WBC#11 super bantam and ex-IBF world ruler Yukinori Oguni (24-5-3, 19 KOs), 122, suffered a shocking TKO loss to unheralded but ambitious Filipino Alex Santisima Jr. (14-2, 8 KOs), 121, at 1:08 of the eighth round on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. The 38-year-old veteran Oguni lately scored an unexpected victory over former champ Marlon Tapales on a unanimous decision this April, and he became highly rated therefore since. But it wasn’t a night for Oguni, who reportedly sustained a backache midway in round one and couldn’t show his usual sharpness only to absorb Santisima’s desperate attacks. The eighth saw Oguni stunned by the Filipino’s last surge, reeling to the ropes in trouble. The ref Nakamura then made a well-timed stoppage to save him from further punishment. Before the stoppage, the official scores were: 68-65 Oguni; 67-66 twice Santisima.
Promoter: Teiken Promotions.
