Ghana’s gospel fraternity has been hit with heartbreaking news that suggest that Maame Tiwaa, the long–serving vocalist of the legendary gospel group Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo, has passed away.

This news was first sighted by zionfelix.net on Sunday, December 7, 2025, on the Facebook wall of  popular Ghanaian blogger Busumuru Sean Kingston.

According to the blogger’s publication, Maame Tiwaa reportedly died under circumstances yet to be officially confirmed by her family or management.

As of the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued, but the rumour has sparked widespread grief among fans, colleagues, and the entire gospel music community.

What makes the news even more devastating is the timing. It comes at a period when Maame Tiwaa was known to be actively caring for her close friend and group mate, Yaw Sarpong, who has been battling a stroke for some time now.

Over the past year, several reports and public appearances showed Maame Tiwaa standing firmly by Yaw Sarpong’s side, representing him at events, accepting awards on his behalf, and helping to keep his legacy alive while he underwent treatment.

Her reported passing has therefore deepened concerns about the emotional and physical toll this may have on the ailing gospel legend, as she was not only his colleague but also one of his strongest support systems.

More updates will be provided as details emerge.
