Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, popularly known as D Black, has credited Reggie Rockstone for influencing his transition from rapping in hardcore English to incorporating local languages in his music.

D Black revealed that he adopted the English style of hip-hop rap before heeding Reggie’s advice.

“Reggie Rockstone inspired me to switch from rapping in English to using a local language. Before this, I couldn’t rap in Twi at all” D Black shared in an interview on Adom TV.

According to the ‘Enjoyment Minister,’ the legendary musician, at a point, even offered to write lyrics for him in Twi or find someone else who could.

D Black also disclosed an instance where Reggie encouraged him to try rapping in Pidgin, which led to one of his biggest songs, ‘Vera’.

“Reggie offered to write it for me or find someone else to do so. He also asked if I could rap in Pidgin, which led to my first Pidgin song, ‘Vera,’ based on his advice,” he added.

D Black acknowledged how Rockstone’s guidance shaped his career, leading to multiple hit songs and collaborations with artistes who made music in local languages.

“The song turned out well. Also, I would occasionally collaborate with musicians who were creating music in the local language. The advice helped me a lot; I got big hits like ‘Seihor’ and ‘Personal Person,’” he said.

Beyond music, D Black also revealed that he shares a close relationship with Reggie Rockstone.

He revealed that he served as Reggie Rockstone’s road manager for about two to three years, travelling with him before starting his career.

“I have a very good relationship with Reggie, as I was his road manager for about two to three years before becoming an artist myself,” he revealed.
