Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has declared Ghana’s ambition to win the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), setting a clear and bold target ahead of the tournament in Morocco.

Ghana has been drawn in a challenging Group D alongside Algeria, Senegal, and South Africa, but Ogum remains confident in his team’s ability to rise to the occasion. The Black Starlets boast a rich history in the competition, having won the title in 1995 and 1999, while finishing as runners-up in 2005 and 2017.

In an interview with Asempa FM, the former Asante Kotoko coach stressed that aiming for the trophy is the surest path to securing qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

“We are targeting the trophy. If we focus on winning the competition, qualification for the World Cup will come naturally,” he said.

Ogum also emphasized the importance of a strong start, noting that winning all group matches will be crucial to their success.

The tournament is scheduled to run from May 13 to June 2 in Morocco, where Africa’s top young talents will compete for continental glory and World Cup qualification slots.
