Newly elected Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency John Dumelo has lauded voters’ growing wisdom and discernment in choosing their leaders.

His comments come in the aftermath of a closely contested election against his opponent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an engaging interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, Dumelo reflected on the strategies used during the election and the evolving democratic maturity of the electorate.

He highlighted allegations he had made earlier, accusing Lydia Alhassan of attempting to sway voters with handouts such as food items, money, and even direct communication while they queued to cast their ballots.

Despite these tactics, Dumelo attributed his victory to his hard work and the electorate’s focus on meaningful representation over material inducements.

“Handouts don’t easily sway some voters; they rather make decisions based on policies and their current situations,” he remarked.

The actor-turned-politician admired voters prioritizing long-term benefits and accountability over short-term incentives.

“The electorate’s discernment and integrity are commendable,” Dumelo stated, emphasizing that voters now value meaningful policies and genuine leadership.
