The Ghana Police Service has launched investigations into a case involving the interception of a Kia Truck with registration number ER-760-23 on the Sekesua road in the Eastern Region, which was found carrying substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

According to police reports, “On September 30, 2025, officers from the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters in Koforidua intercepted the vehicle during routine checks.

“A search of the truck revealed that, in addition to being partially filled with sawdust, it contained 36 sacks of dried substances suspected to be narcotics.”

The police explained that “The vehicle and its contents were subsequently conveyed to the Sekesua Police Station. However, before further processing, the driver of the truck and his mate managed to escape, abandoning both the vehicle and the suspected narcotics.”

Police say efforts have been intensified to re-arrest the two fugitives.

The intercepted truck and the 36 sacks of suspected Indian hemp have since been secured at the Eastern Regional Police Command for further investigation.

The Police Administration has also urged the public to disregard false media reports suggesting that the seized sacks had mysteriously turned into sawdust.

Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) has commenced an internal investigation into the case as part of efforts to ensure transparency and accountability.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public that it remains committed to combating drug trafficking and will update the public as investigations progress.
