Charles Forson is the NPP MP for Tema Central

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema Central, Charles Forson, has disclosed that a number of the party’s legislators contributed to pick the flagbearership nomination form of Kennedy Agyapong for the upcoming 2026 presidential primaries.

According to him, Ken Agyapong has a lot of support from members of the Majority Caucus of Parliament, who are determined that he will become the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

Charles Forson, who made these remarks during an interview on ChannelOne TV, on Tuesday, August 6, 2025, indicated that the MPs supporting Ken are also focused on ensuring that the party stays united after the primaries, and are acting in a manner that would not sow division.

“We went for the forms quietly, and we don’t want to shake the base. We are more particular about post–31st January — how we are going to merge the forces together when he (Ken) becomes [flagbearer]. The support is there. You never saw any MP following him the last time. Now, the numbers are gargantuan, the former MPs are gargantuan. We have the numbers, but I tell them that let us keep things on the low.

“We just called a fraction of the number — only 20 of the number — to contribute GH¢5,000 for the forms and we did… we go for caucus meetings and the number is huge… The contributions have now surpassed the GH¢100,000,” he said.

The Tema Central legislator also stated that Ken is even surprised by the number of NPP MPs supporting his flagbearership bid because he did not enjoy the same support while he was in the House, as the representative for the Assin Central constituency.

“It amazes the man himself. While he himself was there [in Parliament], he didn’t get that support,” he noted.
