The Attorney General and Minister for Justice designate, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has stated that the newly formed operation, Recover All Loot (ORAL), aligns with the constitution.
During his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 13, 2025, he emphasised that the value of accountability is one of the core principles underpinning the constitution.
“Oral is supposed to exert accountability from persons, either politically exposed or persons holding public office, who used or misused their office to loot public resources in the form of property, money, and other intangible resources. So oral is constitutional.
“Oral is legal. In fact, the fact that it is a non-legal body doesn’t mean that it is illegal. There is a distinction between non-legality and illegality,” he stated.
The five-member ORAL team, which was set up by President John Dramani Mahama, is led by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The team is tasked with investigating and documenting cases of alleged corruption and recovering misappropriated state resources.
