Ghanaian entrepreneur and Guinness World Record contender, Afua Asantewaa, has disclosed how former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, almost crushed her dream of becoming a singer.

In an interview on Accra FM shared on Instagram on March 14, 2025, Afua Asantewaa stated that when she auditioned for the Mentor reality show some time ago, Mark Okraku-Mantey advised her to pursue beauty pageantry instead.

She expressed how hurt she was by Okraku-Mantey’s words, saying, “I sang a song from Becca and Mark Okraku-Mantey asked me to go into beauty pageantry. I was hurt by his words,” she said.

Afua Asantewaa said she took the comments in good faith and ventured into beauty pageantry, where she secured second place.

She also addressed recent rumours about receiving a house and apartment from the government following her Guinness World Record attempt.

“Recently, I went online and saw that I’ve been dashed a V8. People are bitter with me because they feel I’ve used state funds. But that’s not the case. Some are even claiming I was given an apartment, which are all lies because I am staying in my own house,” she clarified.
