He explained that he includes nudity in his craft as a sign to attract attention to the story pictured in his drawings.
“I see the criticisms, and they are quite interesting, how people perceive them, and that is one thing about art. It is interesting because art is supposed to speak for itself and get people talking, so when I see these comments.
“I believe the works are actually doing what it is meant to do. For me, nudity in my work is more like a hook to draw people to the concept that the work actually holds,” he said.
Oscar Korbla Mawuli, who currently has a book titled “Anansinisim” which captures most of his art, further noted that he doesn’t consider negative comments about his craft as harsh.
According to him, he sees such criticism as a way for people to want to know more about his craft.
“I honestly don’t see them as harsh. I see them as intrusive, and they really want to learn and know what inspires what I do. I don’t see any comment as harsh,” he added.
Meanwhile, Oscar Mawuli is expected to stage his solo exhibition and book launch at the Accra Arts Center from 6-10 PM.
