Following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections, rapper Medikal has voiced his grievances about his past arrest and imprisonment under the outgoing administration.

It could be recalled that in 2021, Medikal, real name Samuel Frimpong, was arrested for posting a video on Snapchat in September, showing himself holding a Ruger 9mm handgun without a reasonable excuse.

The video went viral and acting on intelligence, police arrested Medikal on October 21.

He was charged and arraigned on October 22, 2021, and remanded to prison for five days.

In a post on his X page on December 9, 2024, Medikal claimed the NPP arrested and detained him without a tangible reason, citing orders from higher authorities.

“NPP arrested me for no tangible reason, NPP put me in cells and locked me up in jail(Ankaful Maximum security prison) all in the name of power. My lawyers tried to communicate with superiors and all they got in response was ‘It’s an order from above’,” he disclosed.

Addressing the incoming president, John Dramani Mahama, Medikal said that despite not trusting him, he believes in Mahama’s potential for positive change.

“Let it be known to the incoming president, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama that, I do not trust him but rather believe in him. Let this new change be exhibited drastically! If not for anything, he should foresee the generation of Sharaf, a good friend of mine (His Son) and the betterment of the youth in Ghana and beyond,” he added.

Although the Electoral Commission is yet to officially announce the results, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has conceded defeat and congratulated his opponent NDC’s John Mahama.
