Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, has addressed critics who question his political competence due to his entertainment background.

Speaking in a recent interview on Hitz FM, the MP-elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon revealed that his decision to transition from acting to politics was initially met with skepticism by some who viewed his entertainment roots as a limitation.

He described the criticism as disrespectful, arguing that diverse professional backgrounds, including law, medicine, business, and even hairdressing, are represented in Parliament.

“I see it as a little bit disrespectful because you have lawyers, doctors, and businessmen in Parliament,” he stated, highlighting the value of diversity in political representation.

Dumelo stressed that being a lawmaker is less about one’s prior career and more about effectively representing constituents.

“We even had hairdressers in Parliament,” he added, underscoring the importance of inclusivity in governance.

The actor-turned-politician remains committed to proving his critics wrong and fulfilling his duties as a representative of the people.
