Ghanaian female boxer, Abigail Kwartekaa Quartey, has made history by becoming Ghana’s first-ever female world champion after defeating UK boxer Sangeeta Birdie at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Ghana.

Quartey triumphed over Birdie by unanimous decision to claim the WIBF World Super Bantamweight title on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

She overwhelmed her opponent, earning a unanimous victory with all three judges scoring the bout 98-91.

This groundbreaking win improves Abigail Kwartekaa Quartey’s record to 9 wins in 10 bouts, with 6 victories coming by way of knockout and only one loss.

She is currently ranked number 1 in Ghana and 50th in the world out of 170 female boxers in the division.

Birdie, on the other hand, suffered her 7th career defeat in 12 fights. She had previously won five bouts, with four of those victories coming by knockout.

Quartey was Birdie’s third Ghanaian opponent in her career, but the first to defeat her, as Birdie had prevailed against her previous two Ghanaian challengers.
