With Ghanaian artistes missing out on the 2026 Grammy Awards, media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has said she cannot understand why Ghana, with so much talent, continues to struggle to break into that level.

Speaking on Peace FM on November 8, 2025, she said Ghana remains one of the richest hubs of talent in Africa, with artistes who work hard and deliver quality music. Yet, she admitted she struggles to understand why those efforts are not translating into Grammy nominations.

MC Yaa Yeboah pointed out that although the country has not secured a nomination this year, it does not mean Ghanaian music has no chance on the global stage.

69th Grammy Awards: Ghana misses out as nominations drop

She described Reggae artiste Rocky Dawuni, a multiple Grammy nominee, as a breakthrough figure for the country and a reminder that global recognition is possible.

She went on to question whether members of the Recording Academy, who vote in the nomination process, are familiar enough with the Ghanaian music scene.

According to her, that lack of familiarity may be one of the reasons most Ghanaian artistes miss out.

“I believe Ghana is one of the most fertile grounds for talent in Africa. We have the talent, and our artistes put in the work, yet I keep asking myself why we still struggle to reach the Grammy stage. I don’t think all hope is lost because we have a stepping stone, Rocky Dawuni, who has been able to reach that level.

The possibility for any Ghanaian musician to earn a nomination is still high. But the Academy members who vote for songs to be nominated, is it that they don’t know the Ghanaian market well?” she said.

Nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, set for February 1, 2026, were released on November 7, 2025. While several Ghanaian artistes submitted their works for consideration, none made it to the final list.

Submissions came from acts such as Black Sherif, M.anifest, Gyakie, Shatta Wale, MOGmusic, Epixode, and Kwaw Kese, with entries in categories including Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album.

However, this year’s shortlist features only non-Ghanaian artistes. The Best African Music Performance category includes Love by Burna Boy, With You by Davido featuring Omah Lay, Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin, Gimme Dat by Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid, and Push 2 Start by Tyla.
