Bernd Leno was the hero of the day as FA Cup holders Manchester United were knocked out of the competition by Fulham.

After what was a largely uneventful first half, Fulham took the lead on the brink of the interval as Calvin Bassey nodded home from a stoppage-time corner.

Fulham threatened to extend their lead after the break but it was United who got the next goal, with captain Bruno Fernandes bailing the Red Devils out yet again to equalise with a clever first-time finish.

Both Andre Onana and Bernd Leno were called into action late in normal time to deny both Emile Smith Rowe and Alejandro Garnacho a dramatic winner, forcing extra time.

Neither side could be separated in the 30 minutes that followed despite chances at both ends, with penalties required to decide who would be in the quarter-final draw.

Leno went on to deny Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee in the shootout to send United packing from the cup, another damning blow in a dreadful season.
