Ghanaian musician KiDi has narrated how his current record label, Lynx Entertainment, nearly dropped him shortly after signing due to his reluctance to adapt and follow the label’s guidance.

Speaking on the ‘Talk No Dey Cook Rice’ podcast, the ‘Lomo Lomo’ hitmaker explained that he joined the label with a sense of independence and was resistant to change.

KiDi mentioned that as an underground artiste emerging around 2009, he was highly praised for being a great R&B singer. Therefore, he did not understand why Lynx Entertainment wanted him to incorporate new styles into his music.

“Lynx almost dropped me right after I signed with them. When I joined Lynx, I was very stubborn and wanted to follow my own path. During my time as an underground artiste, I received great feedback for being a great R&B singer,” he said.

According to him, the label wanted him to explore a different style, but he wasn’t receptive to the idea at the time.

“However, once I signed with Lynx, it seemed they wanted me to explore a different style. I was resistant, arguing that people had consistently told me how great I was as an R&B singer, and I wanted to stick to that,” KiDi stated.

He admitted that his refusal to embrace change created a little tension between him and the team at Lynx.

“At some point, it became quite frustrating for them. They recognised my strengths and encouraged me to incorporate new elements into my music,” he said.

KiDi said that despite their advice, he remained firm in his decision to stick to his own path. “But as a young and stubborn kid, I still insisted on doing things my way,” he noted.

KiDi indicated that he had to give in and learn new skills, such as playing the piano and producing music.

“I had to learn, unlearn, and relearn many things to succeed at Lynx,” he shared.
