Following the peaceful demonstration organised by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and allied groups under the banner of SaveTheJudiciaryDemo, the gallant cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have lauded President Mahama’s government for supervising the demonstration without any major incidents.

In a press release issued and signed by Mr. Richard E. A. Sarpong, popularly called Father Casford, on Tuesday, 6th May 2025, Ghana’s democratic maturity was highlighted for upholding freedom of speech and assembly, a critical ingredient for democracy. The statement underscored Ghana’s commitment to freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate.

Furthermore, the Cadres’ statement contrasts the peaceful nature of the Save the Judiciary demonstration with the ‘Occupy Julorbi House’ demonstration in September 2023, which was met with protests and injunctions; the current happenings show significant progress in Ghana’s democratic journey.

Save Our Judiciary Demonstration – President Mahama Is A True Democrat

What a Day in a Democracy? Ghana upholds Freedom of Speech and Assembly a critical ingredient for democracy . In a remarkable display of democratic values, Ghana yesterday 5th May 2025, witnessed a peaceful demonstration by opposition parties, underscoring the nation’s commitment to freedom of speech and assembly. The protest, organized by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and allied groups under the banner of #SaveTheJudiciaryDemo, was in response to the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo by President John Mahama on April 22, 2025.

This event stands in contrast to previous instances where demonstrations were met with resistance. For example, in September 2023, the *”Occupy Julorbi House”* protest faced police injunctions and arrests, drawing criticism from various quarters.

The peaceful nature of the #SaveTheJudiciaryDemo and the government’s facilitation of the protest highlight Ghana’s progress in upholding democratic principles. It reflects a government that values the voices of its citizens and their right to express dissent.

Again, the newly launched “Code of Conducts” for government appointees and the sanction on appointees who failed to declare their assets with their four months salaries being transferred to the Mahama Care Project Speaks nothing both volumes of the fact that we now have a government of the people, by the people and for the people.

As Ghana continues to navigate its democratic journey, such events serve as a testament to the nation’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of civil liberties. Building the Ghana, We Want indeed!!!
