The family of the late Highlife artiste Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, well-known as Daddy Lumba, has expressed deep frustration over the growing disorder surrounding preparations for his funeral.

In a statement issued on November 24, the family said they were stunned to see billboards and public announcements promoting a December funeral date that was never finalized. According to them, the date was only proposed during discussions with Nananom and was not approved by either the Abusuapanyin or the newly formed committee.

The family argued that the unilateral announcement is insensitive at a time they are still grieving and navigating legal and logistical challenges. They explained that several of Lumba’s children abroad are preparing for critical academic examinations, making a December funeral unrealistic. Investigations and autopsy processes are also underway in both Ghana and Germany, with conflicting accounts surrounding his death still unresolved. They noted that many immediate relatives living overseas need adequate time to secure leave from work, and friends and communities abroad also require time to travel, given Lumba’s long ties to Europe.

They also questioned why Dadesoabahene appears to be aligning with the dissolved committee despite acknowledging that the Abusuapanyin secretly recorded and leaked conversations to bloggers. According to the family, resolutions from the 3tamkɛse mediation, including dissolving the old committee, continuing investigations, and restricting unilateral decisions, have been ignored.

The family further alleged that Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu withdrew GHS 200,000 from Cal Bank despite receiving a court letter restricting him from financial activities. They also cited unauthorized billboards and public statements that contradict the agreed process.

The family urged traditional leaders, the public, and the media to disregard unauthorized announcements and support a transparent and respectful process that honours the legacy of the late music legend.
