Alexander Afenyo-Markin (Middle) mobbed by other NPP bigwigs

The internet has been awash with reports, videos, photos and social media posts on the attempted arrest of the Member of Parliament for Assin South Constituency, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, over alleged drug trafficking and money laundering claims he made regarding some suspicious aircraft that landed in the country in March.

The attempted arrest, purportedly sanctioned by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), was met with resistance from notable members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who formed a human shield to protect their member.

In the spirit of solidarity, the NPP caucus, including Members of Parliament and executives of the party, were seen challenging the arrest in what appeared to be a tensed atmosphere.

“What nonsense is that? …that you want to arrest a sitting MP. Then they should arrest all of us,” Henry Nana Boakye was heard fuming in the Twi language in a video shared by Channel One TV on April 9, 2025.
