Nigerian singer, Reekado Banks, has recounted how he ended his contract with Mavin Records, owned by music producer and musician, Don Jazzy.

In an interview shared on Instagram on August 19, 2025, Reekado Banks noted that he had no bad blood with the record label before his exit.

Reekado Banks explained that he was young at the time he ended his contract with the label after five years of recording, adding that leaving Mavin Records was a premature decision he made.

Director of Lilwin’s controversial Ibrahim Traoré movie speaks

“It wasn’t a situation of a conflict. I was pretty young and fixated on what I wanted to do. I wanted to leave. In any case, my contract had ended two years prior. I signed a three-year contract, and I allowed it to ride for another two years. So, I was there for five years.

“So, when it was time, I thought I wanted to do this now. So, I just embarked on the journey, like many people would but in hindsight I view it as premature,” he said.

I had to take a $400,000 loan to complete Captain Ibrahim Traoré movie – LilWin

When asked about the best advice he received from Don Jazzy before his exit from the Mavin Records, Reekado Banks said that the only thing Jazzy indicated was that he (Reekado) would not be beaten if he departed from the record label.

“It was just what he said. He said, I’m not going to beat you (sic) for leaving. They’re not going to beat me for letting you go. As soon as I jumped into the sea, I realised how premature it was,” he added.
