Jude Dontoh and Lauryn Hill

The 2025 Met Gala featured many jaw-dropping moments, but none captured the spirit of the night quite like Lauryn Hill’s appearance, styled by Ghanaian fashion designer Jude Dontoh.

Making her first-ever appearance at the world’s biggest fashion event, the legendary musician chose to work with Jude Dontoh, co-founder of the fashion label ‘Tribe of God.’

Jude Dontoh delivered a breathtaking look for Lauryn Hill that became one of the night’s most talked-about outfits.

Lauryn Hill stepped onto the Met steps in a butter-yellow tuxedo-inspired gown, complete with a sculptural train.

The design featured intricate embroidery and a burgundy tie, accented with gold jewellery and a regal sash all coming together to reflect themes of Black spirituality, royalty, and strength.

Adding to the symbolic richness of the look was an umbrella held above Lauryn Hill, paying homage to Ghanaian tradition where chiefs and royalty are shaded with a ‘Benkyinie’ umbrella.

To finish it off, Lauryn Hill carried a cerulean blue Hermès Kelly bag, intentionally clashing with the rest of the ensemble.

Jude Dontoh’s Tribe of God, which he co-founded with George Malm and Emmanuel Sam-Amoah, has worked with international names like Sean Paul and global brands such as Spotify and Sony.
