A young Nigerian woman working in Egypt has expressed her frustration after her brother rejected the ₦50,000 she sent to support his wife’s medical treatment.

According to her, he insisted on a higher amount, stating that he expected between ₦500,000 and ₦1 million simply because she lives abroad.

The woman, who is the youngest of seven children, said her brother contacted her urgently to request financial assistance for his wife’s hospital bills, so she sent the amount she could afford.

However, her brother reportedly dismissed the support, assuming she had access to substantial funds due to her relocation outside Nigeria.

Sharing her ordeal, the woman explained that she works in Cairo as a house help, earning about ₦230,000 a month.

She revealed that she sleeps in her employer’s kitchen, where her belongings are also stored, and has been struggling to save after recently completing repayment of the debt owed to the person who sponsored her travel.

“I came from a family of seven, and I’m the last. My brother’s wife got sick, and he pleaded that he needed money to take her to the hospital. I sent this man ₦50,000. He said he was expecting between ₦500,000 and ₦1 million. Where do I wan see am? Dem think say as I dey abroad I dey see money. Na just Egypt I dey. I dey Cairo dey do househelp. I’m sleeping in the kitchen; my bags are in the kitchen. The money dey tree I dey pluck am? The worst part of it is that someone sponsored me here and I just finished paying,” she said.
