Asante Kotoko returned to winning form with a commanding 2-0 victory over already relegated Eleven Wonders at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi in the Ghana Premier League.
The result marked a positive start for interim coach Hamza Obeng, who secured his first win since taking charge of the Porcupine Warriors and ended the club’s four-match winless streak in the league.
Kotoko broke the deadlock in the 39th minute through Lawson Kyei Manu, who produced a well-taken curling effort to give the home side a deserved lead before the interval.
The Kumasi-based giants maintained control of proceedings after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 69th minute. Youngster Anthony Duah, making his senior debut after being promoted from the youth setup by Obeng, finished clinically to seal the win.
The goal capped an impressive performance from the emerging forward and highlighted Kotoko’s willingness to integrate young talent into the squad.
The victory provides a timely lift for Kotoko, whose title ambitions had faded during a difficult run of results in the second half of the campaign.
For Eleven Wonders, the defeat extended a poor run of form, with the relegated side now winless in 13 consecutive matches, recording just one draw since their last victory in January.
Kotoko will next turn their attention to their upcoming fixture against Bechem United, while Eleven Wonders prepare to face Berekum Chelsea as they conclude their season.
