Ghanaian Afrobeats artiste King Promise has responded to the backlash following his controversial remarks comparing the population size of Lagos State, Nigeria, with that of his home country, Ghana.

It can be recalled that in a video circulating online, King Promise, during a chat with Nigerian TikTok personality Peller, was heard saying that “Lagos is bigger than the whole of Ghana,” a statement that triggered an immediate and sharp reaction from social-media users.

Many Ghanaians took to X and other platforms to point out the inaccuracy, arguing that while Lagos may have a very high population density, its total population and land area do not surpass those of Ghana. Some commenters mocked the artiste’s basic geography knowledge.

In the wake of the backlash, King Promise took to his X account on 22 October 2025 to share a photo of himself reading a geography textbook, captioned: “Research has begun.”

The “Paris” hitmaker’s post was met with mainly positive reactions on social media, with many seeing it as a signal that he is taking the criticism seriously and perhaps acknowledging the need to check his facts.

Others responded with humour, jokingly telling the artiste not to “go and sin no more.”
